Villa Merry No. 1 is managed by the successful Lao businessman, Mr Samoraphouma. A skilful entrepreneur with a strong interest in the hotel and tourism business, he has many years of experience of owning and operating guest houses in Luang Prabang. Mr Samor studied Business Management in Germany for 7 years then spent time working in the construction industry doing accounting and cost control. Craving the beauty of Laos, Mr Samoraphouma returned in 1996 and three guest houses; Merry 1, Merry 2 and Merry 3. Each guest house offers high quality services, facilities, hospitality and ambiance and echo the extensive experience that Mr Samoraphouma has in the business. With success in these and a constant demand for quality accommodation in Luang Prabang, he later opened Villa Merry Lao-Swiss in 2005.

Caring for the Destination:

Villa Merry No. 1 is committed to contributing to the local community. Over the last 3-4 years we have worked with local schools to help to improve access to education to young Lao students who live outside the city in local villages. We aim to enable these young people to access an education as well as improving the educational support and learning resources available to them. In partnership with Villa Merry Lao Swiss, we are currently trying to raise USD$7000 to pay for the refurbishment of an old school ion Kialang Village. Since its construction in 1974 by the American Embassy, this school has fallen into disrepair but the funds we are generating will allow for the replacement of the roof, windows, doors and for a new lick of paint.
