Bairro Alto where Pensão Globo is located is one of the most picturesque areas of Lisbon with its narrow cobbled streets adjacent to areas of Carmo and Chiado, with centuries old houses and small traditional shops. It used to be the place where almost all newspapers were formerly located. Since the 80’s the area is best known as the night district of Lisbon with numerous bars and restaurants beside with “Fado’s Houses”. During the past 20 years it has acquired a very characteristic life of its own, where different generations go across in search of evening entertainment. Some of the buildings have been recovered, maintaining the original design and allowing the settling of new and alternative business premises, multi-brand stores, ateliers, tattoo shops and piercing, etc.
